Spence’s Rye, the solo musical project of Gary Copeland, pays homage to the mountain music of the Appalachian region. The tunes are permeated with an aura representative of a time long past, relaxed but driven banjo and cigar box guitar picking, and lone haunting vocals. Sound ranges from blues to knock-down.
By fusing influences ranging from traditional to tin-pan alley, Spence’s Rye takes traditional Appalachian folk music un-apologetically back to its roots in lonesome, solitary performance. The music is a haunting amalgam of various old-time styles, enthusiastic playing, and select original tunes sure to keep things lively!
